Counsellors provide confidential impartial individual support before, during, and after separation, to assist individuals to deal with the strong feelings they might be experiencing about their situation or the future.

Discussions in a safe and confidential environment can enable an increased understanding of a difficult situation.

Such discussion offers the opportunity of gaining a better insight into your situation, how it affects you, and how changes might be made: and it can be useful in helping you cope with the strong emotions you are feeling which may include crisis, traumatic loss, anger, depression and fear about an uncertain future.

Counselling allows you a chance to explore complex or difficult issues, and helps you take time out from your situation and see it from a fresh perspective.

Working with a counsellor gives you a chance to think about what you can do to change your situation for the better. It provides you with an opportunity to tell your story, discuss what it was you and your ex partner brought to the relationship and by so doing bring increased understanding to your situation.

Why use a counsellor?

Many people find that they benefit from sharing their troubles with a trained counsellor. Being able to talk about your thoughts and feelings, without fear of being judged or criticised, can be a tremendous relief. To feel valued and accepted and not to be given advice can lead to a new energy and acceptance of oneself.

A trained counsellor can help to unravel old and new conflicts alike, help you decide what you want for yourself, without feeling guilty or beholden to others. Sometimes people need to re-visit past traumas, as a way of coming to terms with them and moving on, and your counsellor will always treat you with respect and be completely non-judgmental.

What happens at a counselling session?

At the first session the counsellor will talk with you for up to one hour. Some people find this session is all they need to clear their thinking and help them decide what to do and no further counselling is necessary.

At your first session, the counsellor will talk through how counselling might be able to help and aim to re-build your confidence and self-esteem by looking at the choices and options open to you. The counselling service provided is completely confidential.
