Requirement to attend mediation meeting

As from April 2011 there will be a requirement for privately-funded parties who intend to issue certain family proceedings to attend a meeting to learn about family mediation, unless certain exemptions apply.

This change will harmonise the position between privately funded parties and those who are publicly-funded. This will address the issue of some individuals missing out on the mediation information and assessment unnecessarily and allow more individuals to decide whether mediation would be a more suitable way to manage their case.
